Why was my website suspended?

Web hosts regularly suspend accounts for several reasons. The most common reasons for a suspended account are:

  • Late payments
  • Overuse of the server
  • Abuse of the terms of use

Normally, the best thing to do is to contact your host directly and ask them what needs to be done to get your website back up and running.   If you had a late payment, then once you make the payment, your site will be back up online.     If your site is using too many server resources such that other websites on the server are loading slowly or not at all, you will be asked to fix the issue.  Sometimes this just involves upgrading all of your software to the latest versions.   Other times, you can’t control the load because you are receiving lots of legitimate traffic from sites like Digg.  In the latter case, you will simply have to wait out the suspension.
